Achievement Awards/Scholarships

Several awards are presented to students who demonstrate outstanding achievement in theoretical and practical skills. Sound citizenship qualities will also be taken into consideration during the selection process.

The selection process for awards is as follows:

  • Recipients are chosen by the program instructor(s) for specific program awards.
  • For all other individual awards, instructors make nominations and the Awards Committee, consisting of teaching and non-teaching staff, select a recipient for each award.

1. Birchwood Automotive Group Outstanding Achievement Award

Criteria:

  • Highest achieving student graduating from the Auto Mechanics program
  • Punctual/good attendance
  • Excellence in both theory and practical skills

2. Canadian Welding Association Bursary

Criteria:

  • Strong potential for success in the welding trade
  • Punctual/good attendance
  • Excellence in both theory and practical skills
  • Works cooperatively with instructors and fellow students
  • Achieves credit at the enrichment level
  • Positive attitude

3. Dr. Jack Hunt Citizenship Award

Criteria:

  • Secondary student from Oak Park or Shaftesbury High School
  • Maintains training area
  • Punctual/good attendance
  • Fosters positive group environment
  • Participates in school events
  • Works cooperatively with instructors and fellow students
  • Demonstrates developed employability skills

4. Dudson/Russell Food Equipment Award

Criteria:

  • Culinary Arts & Design student
  • Overcame adversity and succeeded in spite of program challenges
  • Positive role model
  • Punctual/good attendance
  • Contributes to a positive work environment

5. Governor General’s Award

Presented to the top secondary student at the College who achieves the highest final grades.

6. Hairstyling Excellence in Customer Service Award

Criteria:

  • Open to secondary and post-secondary students
  • Demonstrates professional conduct
  • Excellent organization skills, reliability, and flexibility
  • Positive attitude
  • Above average communication skills with clients
  • Outstanding performance on practical skills
  • Excellent knowledge of professional sales techniques and services
  • Strives for perfection
  • Exceeds program expectations

7. Jim Buchanan Award for Excellence in a Work Practicum

Criteria:

  • Secondary student from Louis Riel School Division
  • Punctual/good attendance
  • Fosters positive linkages between the College and the business community
  • Demonstrates excellence in Work Practicum

8. Manitoba Electrical League Inc. Award

Criteria:

  • Plans for continuing in the trade
  • High scholastic achievement
  • Successful completion of the program
  • Assists other students in the class
  • Demonstrates financial need
  • Excellent attendance

9. Martin Molloy Memorial Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Overcomes challenges, personal and academic
  • Demonstrates a strong work ethic with detail to quality
  • Demonstrates a caring and compassionate attitude towards others
  • Willingness to help others
  • Strong citizenship qualities in the classroom and the College community

10. Neil Thiessen Award for Program Excellence

Criteria:

  • Secondary student from Vincent Massey or Fort Richmond Collegiate
  • Maintains exceptional practical/theory average
  • Achieves credit at enrichment level
  • Contributes ideas to further development of program
  • Fosters positive class environment

11. Pembina Trails Teachers’ Association Award

Criteria:

  • Pembina Trails secondary student
  • Punctual/good attendance
  • Fosters positive group environment
  • Shows a willingness to help others
  • Demonstrates excellence in Work Practicum

12. ProCurity Inc. Excellence Award

Criteria:

  • Outstanding merit in the courses related to the practice of a Pharmacy Technician in a retail setting
  • Completes his/her Practicum in a community pharmacy
  • High scholastic achievement
  • Excellent attendance
  • Extraordinary employability skills
  • Contributes to a positive classroom atmosphere

13. Program Excellence Award

  • Top student in each program

14. PTANTE Award (Pembina Trails Association of Non-Teaching Employees)

Criteria:

  • Secondary student from Shaftesbury or Oak Park High School
  • Graduating from Business Administrative Assistant and/or comparable program (Microcomputer Systems Technician or Network Systems Administration may be given consideration)
  • Demonstrates program excellence

15. VTAM Award (Vocational Teachers’ Association of Manitoba)

Criteria:

  • Vocational subject area
  • Secondary student
  • Excellence in both theory and practical skills
  • Displays sound employability skills
  • Involved in extracurricular skills
  • Plans to continue education in this vocational field

16. Winnipeg Technical College Award for Excellence

Criteria:

  • Post-secondary student
  • Maintains “A” average in practical and theory
  • Achieves credit at enrichment level
  • Contributes ideas to further development of program

17. Winnipeg Technical College Award for Excellence in Work Practicum

Criteria:

  • Post-secondary student
  • Punctual/good attendance
  • Fosters positive linkages between Winnipeg Technical College and the business community
  • Demonstrates excellence in Work Practicum

18. Winnipeg Technical College Citizenship Award

Criteria:

  • Post-secondary student who contributes the most to the College
  • Good citizenship
