1. When is the next available start date and when should I apply?

All WTC programs start in September.  Some programs offer additional intakes throughout the year but only if space is available. The Carpentry program has two intakes, September and February.

We recommend that an application be sent at least six months in advance of the program start date. Please ensure that all entrance requirements have been met before you apply. High School students may apply while in their last year of high school and will be accepted conditionally until all entrance requirements have been met.

2. What is the application process?

The general process for application is:

  • Complete a Post-Secondary or International Application form at Admissions.
  • Attach all transcripts and supporting documents that prove you have met all entrance requirements. Refer to Programs for program-specific entrance requirements.
  • Include a $55.00 CDN ($60.00 CDN for the Network Security Diploma Program)
  • Deliver or mail all items mentioned to: Admissions Office, Winnipeg Technical College, 130 Henlow Bay, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3Y 1G4.

Note: Post-secondary learners who may have a documented permanent disability should contact the Disability Services Coordinator at 989-6537 as part of the application process.

3. Do I need an original transcript or can it be a photocopy?

 All educational transcripts must be original.  Upon request your original transcripts can be photocopied by WTC staff and returned to you.

 4. What programs do you offer?

Winnipeg Technical College (WTC) offers programs in the areas of skilled trades, health and human services, and information and business technology. Refer to Programs for program details.


5. What if I do not meet the entrance requirements of a program?

If you do not meet the entrance requirements, you may register to write the Skills Assessment test.

The Skills Assessment test is the Canadian Adult Achievement Test (CAAT) that measures the skill level of applicants in the areas of math and English. This testing is not a measure of English Language Proficiency. Refer to English Language Proficiency for further details.

6. What are the entrance requirements for International or internationally educated applicants?

Students educated outside of Canada must meet an English Language Proficiency, as well as specific program entrance requirements. Math and Science requirements will be accepted from your country of origin with proof of academic completion at the post-secondary level. Refer to English Language Proficiency for further details.


7. What is an English Language Proficiency assessment?

English Language Proficiency assessments measure the level of English proficiency for those students whose first language is not English. For a full listing of accepted English Language Proficiency assessments please refer to English Language Proficiency.


8. Are WTC programs accredited?

Programs at WTC where applicable, lead to Apprenticeship Accreditation, Professional Certification and/or transferability of credits to other post-secondary institutions. Refer to Programs for program details.


9. Will I receive a certificate or diploma upon completion of my program at Winnipeg Technical College?

Upon completion of a program at WTC, you will receive a certificate. With the exception of the Network Security Diploma Program, which you will receive a joint diploma from University of Winnipeg and WTC.


10. Do you have student housing?

WTC does not have student housing but the College is located in close proximity to affordable student housing.


11. What are WTC’s tuition payment options?

Winnipeg Technical College uses the services of Canadian Education Payment Plan (30to90), providing you with several payment options with regards to your tuition. All registrants must pay the non-refundable deposit to reserve their seat which is part of the tuition fees.

If you receive financial assistance from a sponsor, the notice of assistance must be attached. The payment amount of the Payment Plan will be reduced accordingly.

The cost of most textbooks is included in your payment plan. They are available to you on the first day of class. No long lines at the bookstore. At WTC we do the shopping for you.

12. How can I fund my tuition?

Sponsorship may be available through your local Employment Manitoba office, your Local Management Board or Band office, as well as Manitoba Student Aid and Canada Student Loans and grants. Workers Compensation and Vocational Rehabilitation Services sponsorship may be available if applicable.

Entrance Awards/Bursaries and Achievement Awards/Scholarships are also available.


13. When will I receive my T2202A tax receipt?

T2202A tax forms will be issued at the end of February of each school year, which will include the tuition from the last calendar year.
