Student Expectations & Privileges

The College recognizes student rights, but also holds students responsible for conducting themselves in the best interest of the College.

We expect students to apply themselves to their studies and act with propriety and in conformity with College policies, rules and regulations, including this declaration. Failure to accept these responsibilities will result in such action as the case may warrant.

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS

  1. Students must conduct themselves in a responsible manner and any of the following shall constitute improper student conduct:
  • Cheating, plagiarism, fraud, deceit, or other forms of academic dishonesty.
  • Threatening to subject or subjecting any person, student or staff, to physical or mental harassment, indignity, injury or violence.
  • Disturbing, disrupting, or otherwise interfering with studies, laboratories, lectures, work or other activities of fellow students or staff.
  • Intentionally damaging, destroying or moving without authority or permitting to be damaged, destroyed or moved without authority, the property of the College, or of any student or staff member.
  • Unauthorized use or unauthorized entry to the College property.
  • Participation in unauthorized or hazardous activities.
  • Failure to obey the instructions of any College official or employee acting in the performance of his or her duty and failure to obey all published or posted regulations relating to the use and entry of College buildings and facilities.
  1. Students are responsible for acquainting themselves with the program, content, evaluation methods and methodology.
  2. Students must respect other people’s health and right to security.
  3. Students are responsible for communicating with their instructors and/or advisors in order to solve any problems they may encounter.
  4. Students are held responsible for their class attendance and punctuality.
  5. Students are responsible for handing their assignments to their instructors within the required deadlines or, if they cannot do so, for making prior arrangements with their instructor.
  6. Students are responsible for taking advantage of educational activities offered to them and for taking part in meetings where topics concerning them will be discussed.
  7. Students are responsible for fulfilling their obligations, as agreed upon in conjunction with the College, with regard to the use of goods and services at their disposal.
  8. Students are responsible for notifying the instructors of any discrepancies in the information provided in each Performance Report.

STUDENT PRIVILEGES

  1. Students have the right to assemble.
  2. Students have the right to a healthy and safe environment.
  3. The confidentiality of all information regarding the student must be respected unless he/she consents in writing to its disclosure. Nevertheless, staff members and sponsors whose professional duties require information may, within the generally accepted rules of ethics, have access to the student’s record.
  4. Students have the right to request and be informed of the extent of College-related expenses to be incurred during their studies at the College and to be made aware of any services offered to them.
  5. Students wishing to express their concern regarding any aspect of their rights, should follow the Line of Communication.
  6. Students have the right to refer to any documents contained in their official student record.
  7. Students have the right to add documents to their official student record, including written documents refuting the contents of documents of a disparaging nature.
  8. Students have the right to know, at the beginning of the program, the requirements regarding class attendance and punctuality.
  9. Students have the right to know of any changes to the program.
  10. Students have the right to be informed, at the beginning of a course, of what will be covered in the course and how they will be assessed.
  11. Students have the right to freedom of opinion and expression in the classroom, and where content allows, in their assignments and exams.
  12. 12. Students have the right to proper and impartial evaluation of their performance. Students have the right to request a re-evaluation.
  13. The confidential nature of the student’s evaluation must be respected.
  14. Students have the right to request and receive any rule, policy or guideline regarding study and general conditions at the College as well as information regarding the consequences of transgressing such rules, policy or guidelines.
  15. Students have the right to expect the College to provide instructors who possess appropriate knowledge and teaching skills in relation to their program of instruction.
  16. Students have the right to a speedy resolution of issues.

If students feel their rights have not been met, they may address their concern by following the steps outlined in the Student Concerns policy.
