Print Layout

The practice of printing started almost 1,500 years ago in China when the Chinese began carving blocks of wood into the shapes of characters. Entire pages were printed at a time in what was a very laborious and time consuming process. Although many methods were created and different materials used to save time since then, none had the impact that Johan Gutenberg's functioning production process and the resulting 42 line bible, the Latin Vulgate, had on printing. Nothing, that is, until the advent of the personal computer.

Students enrolled in the Web Design Program learn the technical skills for the production of high quality printed materials. Students will learn visual decision making for layout and typographic composition, page geometry, proofreading, file conversion and editing of Acrobat PDF format for cross-platform distribution. These skills will be practiced and honed using Adobe InDesign and Acrobat, the industry's most powerful layout software.
