A snake is a long and slender legless animal that looks like it is basically all tail with a head. Two striking features about snakes are their lack of legs and moveable eyelids. Also most snakes only have one lung. Snakes are most closely related to the lizard, and in fact, the first snake is thought to have evolved from some type of burrowing lizard. Most snakes are found in warmer regions, while there are some that are found in colder regions. It is believed that there are between 3,000 and 3,500 types of snakes living with about 10 to 15 percent of these being poisonous. |
